Introduction to Three Phase Induction Motor Protection System Using Pic Microcontroller: This project is about health monitoring of three phase induction motor using pic microcontroller. This three phase induction motor protection system using pic microcontroller, protects the three phase induction motor during any fault condition such a current or voltage variation, in any phase of three phase ac supply as well as it also provides the protection during vibration, speed and temperature fault .Motor is an electromechanically decide which converts the electrical energy into mechanically energy. So, they play an important role in our domestic and commercial level industry. Normally two types of faults are occurred in ac motors first one is mechanical fault that could be due to bearing jam and second one is electrical fault that could be due to over voltage ,over current ,under voltage, under current , over temperature and speed variation etc. In this induction motor health monitoring system, we will measuring three phase voltage, current and temperature of induction motor. you may also like to read about other induction motor related projects:

When any type single phase fault is occurred in three phase induction motor then the winding of motor is heated which may goes to serious fault or may reduce the life of motor. Therefore the protection of three phase ac motor is so much necessary. So many protection devices are available in market, but they are so much costly as well as they are not so much efficient and reliable. To overcome these issues here we have designed a system that is called a three phase induction motor protection system using pic microcontroller with the help of three phase current transformer, three phase voltage transformer, current sensing circuit , voltage sensing circuit, relay with magnetic contractor unit, LCD display, power supply unit and pic microcontroller PIC18F452. This three phase induction motor protection system using pic microcontroller is more efficient, reliable and less costly as compared to other motor protection devices, but this system will only work in electrical fault condition. The block diagram of this protection system with all their essential components is shown in figure 1

Working Principle of Three Phase Induction Motor Protection System Using PIC Microcontroller
This three phase induction motor protection system using pic microcontroller, works on the principle of voltage and current measurements. For measuring the minimum and maximum values of current and voltages ,there are three phase voltage and current transformers are installed with in this system which are interfaced with current and voltage sensing circuits. Similarly ,these circuits are interfaced with microcontroller which is the main intelligent controller of this three phase induction motor protection system. It is powered up with power supply unit and is interfaced with LCD display and relay contactor unit.
It is programmed in c language with the help of mikro/c software. The minimum and maximum values of current and voltages are converted into digital values with the help of current ,voltage sensing circuit and then these values are given to microcontroller. These minimum and maximum values of current and voltages are set by the user. After setting, the microcontroller continually checks the set values if these are exceeded or below then it gives the trip signal to relay contractor unit. Which is connected in series with three phase induction motor. Then this relay contactor unit turned off the three phase induction motor. Same work is done by this three phase induction motor protection system during over temperature and vibration. In this whole system the LCD display shows all condition during any fault occur. This is very simple system and friendly to use.
